Five Make the Shortlist for our September Writing Contest

We are so pleased to announce that FIVE writers have made the shortlist for our September 2022 Write Prompt Challenge.

We try to choose images that can take authors in countless directions, and the image of an airplane wing certainly took people to some interesting places. These writers approached the provided image with wonderfully unique views that were clever, surprising, and touching.

Congratulations to Connie Chen, Rayyan Dabbous, Desiree Kendrick, Kathleeen Klassen, and E. J. Nash — we wish you well as you go on to the final stage of judging!

Connie Chen | shortlisted for the story, 'The Look'

Connie is a family physician who had a practice in Toronto before leaving for health reasons. She now works with Public Health and is finding her voice in her writing.

Rayyan Dabbous| shortlisted for the story, 'Montreal to Beirut'

Rayyan Dabbous is a PhD student at the University of Toronto. He is the author of Torontino (2022).

Desiree Kendrick | shortlisted for the story, 'Turbulence'

Desiree’s writing has been published in literary magazines in Canada, the US, and the UK. A list of her publication credits can be found on her website at www.desireekendrick.com/published-work. She loves to travel (except in a pandemic). She always jots in her travel journal, where you will find more than one humourous tale recorded in old-fashioned ink.

Kathleen Klassen | shortlisted for the story, 'Shifting Horizons'

Kathleen Klassen is an emerging writer who discovered poetry as a source for healing after injury. She received two honourable mentions for the 2021 John Newlove poetry prize and was a finalist in the Pen 2 Paper creative writing contest for disabilities. Her work has appeared in numerous online and print journals, most recently with Rise Up Review, geez magazine, Train: a poetry journal, Alternative Field, and They Call Us.

E. J. Nash | shortlisted for the story, 'Wish You Were Here'

E. J. Nash is an Ottawa-based writer. Previous work has been published in The Globe and Mail, Nature Futures, PACE Magazine, The First Line, Idle Ink, and elsewhere. She can be found on Twitter @Nash_EJ.

Watch for our announcement of the top three in the coming weeks!
