Five Make the Shortlist for our March Writing Contest

We are so pleased to announce that FIVE writers have made the shortlist for our March 2022 Write Prompt Challenge.

We try to choose images that can take authors in countless directions, and the image of a rusty vehicle parked beside a rundown building took people on some interesting adventures. These writers approached the provided image with wonderfully unique views that were clever and surprising.

Congratulations to Finnian Burnett, Grace Curry, Salvatore Difalco, K. Jane May, and Julie McClement — we wish you well as you go on to the final stage of judging!

Finnian Burnett | shortlisted for the story, 'Dream of California'

Finnian Burnett teaches undergrad English and creative writing. They’ve published in the Bath Flash Fiction Award Anthology, Daily Science Fiction, Flash Fiction Magazine, and more.
In their spare time, Finnian watches a lot of Star Trek and takes their cat for walks in a stroller. Finnian lives in British Columbia with their wife and Lord Gordo, the cat. You can find Finnian on Twitter at @FinnianBurnett and at www.finnburnett.com.

Grace Curry| shortlisted for the story, 'Sometimes Buildings Are Just Buildings'

Grace is currently working as an engineer-in-training in Calgary and spends her free time collecting experiences and then writing about them. She’s lucky in that her family owns a farm within driving distance of her downtown apartment, offering exposure to two very different worlds that she tries to integrate together in stories about the subtler parts of humanity.

To date, Grace’s work has been published as a part of the Short Story Dispenser project at the Calgary Public Library and recently, she’s begun to more actively focus on submitting pieces from her steadily growing collection.

Salvatore Difalco | shortlisted for the story, 'Freddy Fox'

Salvatore Difalco lives in Toronto

K. Jane May | shortlisted for the story, 'As Before'

Manitoba born, K.Jane May now divides her time between Vancouver Island and Southwestern Saskatchewan. Her fiction appears in Grain, Pulp Literature, and The Antigonish Review. As well as placing Second in both the 2019 Lorian Hemingway Short Story Competition and the 2018 Sheldon Currie Prize, she was shortlisted for The Fiddlehead's 2020 Fiction Contest and longlisted for the 2021 CBC Short Story Prize.

Julie McClement | shortlisted for the story, 'A Jury of His Peers'

Julie McClement grew up in midwestern Ontario and has studied creative writing at George Brown College. Her work has appeared in Spadina Literary Review and Funny Pearls. She can be found on Twitter at @JulieMcClement.

Watch for our announcement of the top three in the coming weeks!
