Joy DeVito is the co-author of Lifting Hearts off the Ground: Exploring Indigenous Rights in Poetry which seeks to breathe life into the dry legal language of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. She and her partner Carlo have three children who have taught their parents to listen for the birds, to explore creativity, and how to be fierce in the face of pain.
